Hi all
First I am 17th eng.2AD. I served in the Army from 1971 to 1975 . In 1971 I was in AIT in FT Leonardwood Mo.I came down with Mono. and was told it was strep throat.3 days later I was on leave in Ma. and woke up shaking went to VA. hospital in Prov. RI.I was admitted with infectious Mono. for 3 days and then transfered to New Port Naval Base Hospital for a small 13 day stay in the ward there. now in 1972 and 73 I was having symtoms of MS and didnt know it was MS.all the medics would do was run more Mono spots and they always come back negative needless to say the problems would subside in time . so all the time I was having problems numbness and tingling in hands feet and legsI just wrote it off as getting older thisis a very long story I would be happy to finish it later question is why is the VA such a pain in the butt always denying me what i should have already have gotton . MRI's didnt come out till 1984 or 85 and lying about there being no records of me in New Port naval with monomy PVA rep seems to be fighting against me and helping the VA my last hearing is in Sept if I dont get it this time I am out of hearings. and my chances of ever getting what I should have is over WHY WHY WHy

Hi 17th,

I am not really sure that I understand completely what is going on -- but you should be able to get help from a State VA Representative if your PVA rep does not seem to be helping you. Request your medical records yourself and see if there are civilian records that are important for your diagnosis. The VA can make MS ruling now on presumptive diagnosis. If you showed signs and symptoms going all the way back to the time within 7 years of being released from the service.

Also, if you know buddies or have people that can vouch for you and write a statement about your health (back then and now), this helps too.

It took me almost 3 years to get benefits ... but I finally did after an appeal. I think that statements from friends helped the situation in my regard.

Don't give up and if you need to, find another representative to help you out.

I am in the same situation. Reps don't seem to fight for Vet. Military medical records indicate
a rash or some sort.

I would also suggest that you go to this forum:

http://vets.yuku.com/ (A VA Benefits Forum)

And post some information ASAP. There are people on there who work or have worked for the VA on the ratings boards). This is an indispensable resource and has assisted me a lot.

I am sorry you are having such a hassle. Visit the board and see what kinds of advice you can get.
